Seek and ye shall find: Hello, Oleksiy!

Our team in Kyiv is also growing: Oleksiy brings a lot of experience to the company with his calm, experienced manner. In this interview, he tells us how he found his way to us and what goals he still has in life.

Oleksiy: 15 years of user-centered programming make the senior backend dev an experienced php developer.Hi Oleksiy! Nice of you to take the time to tell us a bit about yourself. You started with us in February last year. Have you settled in well since then?
Hello and yes: thanks to my colleagues and my project manager, I quickly got to grips with the workflows and processes. I now have the feeling that I have fully arrived.

That makes us happy. When you look back: How would you describe your work at Blackbit?
My workload is reasonable - I'm always busy, but there's no pressure. The tasks are varied and I am in constant contact with my direct colleagues.

Which applications do you work with?
PhpStorm - in my opinion the best software for PHP developers.

How did you find Blackbit?
Via a job platform for developers.

What training did you have?
From 2002 to 2006 I studied at the Simferopol Faculty of Kyiv National University. My first programming languages were BASIC, C and assembler. The topic of my final thesis was "Programmable PIC controllers", with which I successfully completed the degree programme.

What experience did you gain before Blackbit?
I started programming at university and remained a programmer. Today I am an IT engineer with more than 15 years of experience in designing and developing user-centred web solutions - from the initial concept to the finished, polished result.

What sets you apart?
My experience. But I also want to constantly develop myself further and therefore like to try out different technologies and programming languages. I also enjoy working with people because you always learn something new. I think I always act very responsibly and am goal-orientated - both in my private life and at work.

Do you see your job more as a science or an art?
Science!

What's on your desk?
Nothing! I just need a Macbook. My workplace isn't always the same. Sometimes on the sofa, sometimes in a coworking space or somewhere completely different.

What do you do when you're not at your desk?
I like to go for walks, play with my children and play video games.

What does your perfect Sunday look like?
Relaxing on the beach with the whole family and enjoying good food together in a restaurant.

What's at the top of your bucket list?
Buying my own house for me and my family.

Which app would you never want to do without again?
I don't like dependency - there's always an alternative. That also applies to apps.

Which three hashtags best describe your job?
#blackbit #ecommerce #pimcore

Last question: If you were a plant, which one?
An oak tree.

That sounds like you have both feet firmly on the ground. Thanks for your time, we're glad you're with us!
