Pimcore Single Sign-on (SSO) Bundle - Login via SAML: Maximum Simplicity & Security!

Blackbit has developed the Pimcore Single Sign-on Bundle so that access rights and user roles for the Pimcore backend can be conveniently managed via an external authentication provider (SSO service). In addition to OpenID and LDAP*, this now also supports login via SAML.

SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) is an open standard for the exchange of authentication and authorization information.

Many modern online services support SAML for single sign-on, for example Okta, OneLogin, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Google Workspace and others.

What Are the Advantages of Single Sign-On?

Single sign-on (SSO) services such as Okta make it possible to manage access rights and authentication processes for different websites more securely, efficiently and user-friendly in one place.

  • Only one password: Users only need to log in once centrally to access all relevant services. This means everyone only has to remember one password.
  • High security: Authentication providers meet the highest requirements for data security and encryption.
  • Central user management: Administrators create users and access authorizations for all web applications in a single system.
  • Simple deactivation of users: When employees leave the company, all logins can be deactivated with a single click.

Single Sign-on for Your Website

The Pimcore Single Sign-On plugin can not only be used for creating and updating Pimcore backend accounts, but you can also integrate it on your Pimcore-based website. In the frontend login form on your website, you can therefore offer your users the option of logging in to an authentication provider via a corresponding button as an alternative or in addition to the regular input fields for username and password.

Login to Pimcore - simple & secure! And this is how it works: When users click this SSO button, they land at the authentication provider and can log in there. Users are then taken back to the website. Here, either a Pimcore user object can be used for the login on the website or an individual Pimcore data object can be created via an event handler.
