Newcomer Bent rises to every challenge and always has a clever idea to make our work that little bit better. In this interview, he talks about himself and his career.
Hi Bent! Nice of you to take the time. Your title is that of a classic Senior Backend Developer, but your day-to-day work is quite varied. How would you describe your job?
I support our team where I can and try to drive individual projects and the Blackbit company forward. Specifically, this means: tech lead, project lead, consulting, mentoring, reviewing - and lots of discussions.
Can you tell us something about yourself - and how your personality is reflected in your job?
My conviction is that there is a solution to every problem. And I like the challenge of finding and implementing them. Because that's when it really starts to get exciting. That's also the connection between my job and my private life: I work in the field that I'm passionate about in my private life. I deal with the Internet, tech topics and new things in general. I like to pay attention to all the details so that we can deliver the best possible result.
It's great to be able to express your personality so productively at work. What professional experience did you already have before Blackbit?
So far, I've been an IT support analyst, IT freelancer, project manager, product manager, managing director and developer - so I've been able to take on many perspectives within companies.
What applications do you use in your daily work?
ZSH [the standard shell for macOS and Linux] is my tool. Because it works and does all I need.
Have you always wanted to work in an agency?
I never really had that specific wish, but it fits very well.
What does your perfect working day look like?
A good breakfast, a pot of tea and then 8 hours with a headset working through topics that are fun and challenging.
Do you have a real weakness?
Most likely that I rarely avoid confrontation and am sometimes simply too direct. Maybe I should take a step back sometimes.
What is your key learning from everyday life: you can't work in an agency without it?
My headset is basically my work clothes, nothing works without it.
Do you see your job more as a science or an art?
Both! The art is to do it well and elegantly, combined with the science of doing it accurately and flawlessly.
What's on your desk?
A keyboard, my headset and Darth Vader from Lego.
And when you're not at your desk, what do you do?
That hardly ever happens. Apart from sports and playing the piano, I also spend a lot of my private time at the computer.
What's at the top of your personal bucket list?
There's plenty to do and lots of exciting things to discover. Let's get going! I don't need a list for that.
Which three hashtags best describe your job?
#geilerschice, #BackendFTW, #whooot
What do you do when you're in a bad mood?
Jogging or biking, playing the piano or listening to loud music. Something always helps.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
Ouch! Well, it's growing back together. So get up and keep going.
If you were a plant, what would it be?
One of those plants that grows everywhere and never dies due to inhospitable conditions.
What does your perfect Sunday look like?
Sleep in, coffee, computer on - all by myself. And then sport, but then I like to do it in company.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Do it all over again. Maybe believe in yourself more.
To be honest, that sounds confident enough ;) But let's move on to the last question: is there anything else you would like to share with us?
We are all living in the internet. Let's make it better!
We couldn't have come up with a better closing statement. Thank you for the entertaining conversation, let's get to work!
Paul writes sometimes colorful-creative, sometimes purely factual customer and target group-oriented texts. Whether on or offline, for the blog, in fast-moving social media or for corporate publishing of inventory as well as marketing concepts that simply convince.
