With version 3.9, Blackbit is taking Data Director to a new level: in addition to numerous detailed improvements, the focus is on three main topics - the extended DeepL integration, real API pagination and full compatibility with Pimcore 12. There have also been major improvements in terms of performance, versioning and ease of use. An overview.
Deepl Integration: Even Smarter, Even More Flexible
The new version of the Data Director not only makes content translation more precise, but also more convenient:
- Glossary management directly in the Pimcore backend
DeepL glossaries can now be maintained via the Pimcore translation area - using the dedicated DataDirector_Glossary domain. This content is automatically synchronized with DeepL without the need for further configuration. When translations are used in attribute mapping, the appropriate glossary is automatically applied. - Context for more precise translations
For even higher translation quality, the context can now also be provided - such as the product name or the category from which a term originates. This ensures significantly better results, especially for ambiguous terms such as "color" (hue vs. wall color). - Performance tuning in the backend
To avoid overloading the backend, DeepL translations are now stored in a separate translation domain (DataDirector_Cache). This reduces loading times - especially for large projects with many translations.
Compatible With Pimcore 12
Data Director 3.9 is fully compatible with Pimcore 12 and platform version 2025, making it ready for current and future projects based on the latest Pimcore technology. We are working hard to support the Studio UI interface so that this will also be available soon.
Real API Pagination
The export dataports have long had their own REST API endpoints. What's new is that the "limit" and "offset" parameters now take effect during raw data extraction - instead of only after the data has been fully retrieved. This means that the API can finally be used efficiently for paginated requests and reduces the load on the system for large amounts of data.
More Control for Parallel Processing
Users can now set the number of parallel processes for each Dataport individually. The previous "Run with parallel processes" checkbox has been replaced in favor of a clear and stable concept. The automatic scaling mechanism, which regulated the total number of parallel processes for processing the queue, has also been removed, as it could lead to overloads in third-party systems in practice (e.g. when Pimcore sends data to an online store). Now it is the human who decides, not the algorithm.
More Convenient Recovery of Object Versions
Pimcore has always offered versioning of objects - but until now it was only possible to restore them completely. Data Director 3.9 now offers a finely tuned restore feature: individual fields of a version can now also be specifically reset - even across multiple objects. This is particularly useful if unwanted changes only become apparent later, while other data has long since been processed.
Further Highlights in Brief
- UTF-16 support for file import
- Zipped Excel exportsincl. assets
- Filter for relation entries indataqueries
(e.g. products that have a category whose name is "shoes") - Support for CDN-compatibleasset URLs when storing assets in remote storages such as AWS S3 or Google Cloud
- Betterperformance for XML import & raw data processing
- WYSIWYG fieldwith placeholder support
- Color valuescan be imported via hex code
- Enhancements to the history and status panel with progress display, filter options and abort control
Conclusion
With version 3.9, the Data Director is not only compatible with Pimcore 12 - it is also more powerful, more flexible and more user-friendly. The update brings enormous benefits, especially for multilingual platforms and data-intensive processes.
